Flame Retardants Connected To Infertility in Women

It is suggested by a recent study, that women who have high common flame retardant concentrations in their urine might face difficulties in conceiving and carry a baby. The chemicals are known as organophosphate flame retardants also termed PFRs that can be utilize in the making of upholstery fire-resistant or clothing and can also be present in yoga mats, nail polishes and the seats of the car. The data was examined on a number of 211 women by the researchers for the study, who visited a fertility clinic that is based in Massachusetts for the classification of vitro fertilization.  High urinary levels of by products or metabolites of three flame retardants were reflected in the lab tests which were isopropylphenyl phenyl phosphate (ip-PPP), diphenyl phosphate (DPHP) and bis(1, 3-dichloro-2-propyl) phosphate (BDCIPP).

Women who had the highest levels of the two chemicals diphenyl phosphate (DPHP) and isopropylphenyl phenyl phosphate (ip-PPP) stayed 10 percent less probable for prosperous pregnancy, 41 percent were less likely to have a viable fertilization, 31 percent had less chances of successful embryo implants in the uterus and 38 percent had less chances of having a live birth, in comparison to women who the lowest levels of these two chemicals in their urine. Study’s main author Courtney Carignan, who conducted the research in Boston at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health mentioned that these researches claim that encounters with organophosphate flame retardants may be one of the various factors of risks reduced reproductive success. They also add up to the proof that reflects a requirement of decreasing the utilization of these flame retardants and determine substitutes that are safer, Carignan further suggested through an email.

It was also claimed by her that when flame retardants are added to a variety of products they are not bound chemically and are constantly released in the dust and air. She strongly believes that we all consume a certain amount of dust on a daily basis as small amounts may stick to the hands easily. She suggested that couples who are wishing to decrease their encounter with flame retardants may get an advantage from washing their hands numerous times in a day, specifically before meals, as studies that were conducted earlier have reflected that people who wash their hand several times in a day have less of such chemicals in their bodies. Various reports suggest that one in every six couples face difficulties with infertility.
